Situated in Newlands/Rondebosch on the corner of Keurboom and Palmyra roads, Abbadale Bed and Breakfast occupies a gracious double-storeyed house which was built in 1904 for the secretary to Cecil John Rhodes.

The high ceilings, wooden floors and shuttered cottage windows are typical of the architecture of the time. The rooms are large, bright and airy with views of the mountain, pool or garden. Oak trees dominate the large grounds, and there is plenty of secure parking. Squirrels and birds add their charm to this restful Cape garden.

Yet Abbadale is only a stone's throw from Kelvin Grove Club and Newlands cricket and rugby grounds, and very close to the schools, clubs, hospitals and businesses of the bustling Claremont and Rondebosch shopping centres. Major routes lead to the airport (15 minutes), the City (10 minutes), the coast and the Boland and wine routes.

Rooms: The high-ceilinged bedrooms are large, bright and airy, and are tastefully furnished with period pieces. All have TV and tea and coffee-making facilities. Five are situated on the first floor, conveniently removed from the hurly burly of reception areas, kitchen and living quarters, and on the same level is an intimate sitting-cum-reading room with a library and a private interview/meeting space which is available to guests by arrangement. Downstairs is one separate room with own entrance, bedroom with double bed, bathroom with shower and kitchenette.

All bedrooms are serviced daily and all linen, towels etc are provided (including swimming towels). Smoking and eating in the bedrooms are discouraged.

Amenities: Full breakfast is included. The intimate upstairs guest lounge (with bar fridge and microwave) is available for relaxing, reading or chatting. There's an internet connection and a 'quiet space' available for working. The meeting and interview room may be booked by business people requiring a private and comfortable spot in central Newlands to meet confidentially with clients, or for entertaining friends or family. The large salt-water pool and barbecue patio are available for outdor fun and are especially attractive in summer. There is plenty of secure parking behind iron gates.
